Gyeonghuigung wurde ursprünglich als Nebenpalast für den König erbaut und diente während der Joseon-Dynastie als Rückzugsort und Nebenresidenz. Obwohl ein Großteil während der japanischen Kolonialzeit zerstört wurde, ist er sorgfältig rekonstruiert worden, sodass Besucher die prächtigen Tore, den kunstvollen Thronsaal und die friedlichen Innenhöfe bewundern können. Auf dem Palastgelände befindet sich auch das Seoul Museum of History, das Einblicke in die Entwicklung der Stadt bietet. Die Lage in der Nähe von Gwanghwamun macht ihn zu einem ruhigen Rückzugsort vom geschäftigen Stadtleben.
