Prešeren Square (Prešernov trg) is the vibrant central square of Ljubljana, the meeting point of the Old Town and the modern centre, and the hub of the Slovenian capital's daily life. Anchored by the salmon-pink Franciscan Church of the Annunciation and the statue of national poet France Prešeren, it opens onto the river at the famous Triple Bridge. Café terraces, buskers, and a constant flow of people make it the natural heart of the city, beautifully lit at night and the focus of festivals and celebrations.
It's less a 'sight' than the lively living room of Ljubljana, the place to sit with a coffee, watch the city go by, and set off exploring the car-free Old Town, the riverside market, and the castle hill. Charming by day, magical when floodlit in the evening.
Don't miss

A bit of history
The square developed as Ljubljana's central meeting place, taking its current form around the salmon-pink Franciscan church (1660s) and the 1905 monument to the beloved Romantic poet France Prešeren, whose work includes the Slovenian national anthem. Architect Jože Plečnik shaped the adjoining Triple Bridge.
