The Old City of Luxembourg is a beautifully preserved medieval quarter perched on a rocky plateau above the Alzette and Pétrusse rivers. A UNESCO World Heritage site since 1994, it features narrow cobblestone streets, historic buildings, and picturesque squares like Place Guillaume II and Place d'Armes. Visitors can wander past the Grand Ducal Palace, the Notre-Dame Cathedral, and the city's oldest church, St. Michael's. The district is distinctive for its blend of medieval and Renaissance architecture, with influences from Spanish, French, and Austrian rule. It's a lively area with cafés, boutiques, and markets. The views from the Chemin de la Corniche, often called 'the most beautiful balcony in Europe,' are not to be missed.

Don't miss

  • Grand Ducal Palace (official residence of the Grand Duke)

  • Chemin de la Corniche – scenic walkway with valley views
