Notre-Dame Cathedral, Luxembourg

Notre-Dame Cathedral, located in the southern part of Luxembourg City's old town, is a masterpiece of Gothic Revival architecture. Built in the 17th century by the Jesuits, it later became a cathedral in 1870. The cathedral's exterior features a striking rose window, flying buttresses, and a towering spire. Inside, visitors are greeted by a serene atmosphere, with beautiful stained glass windows, intricate woodwork, and a notable organ. The crypt contains the tombs of Grand Ducal family members, including Grand Duke Jean and Grand Duchess Joséphine-Charlotte. The cathedral is also home to the revered statue of the Virgin Mary, known as the Consoler of the Afflicted, which is the focus of an annual pilgrimage. Its location near the Bock and the Pétrusse Valley makes it a central point for exploring the city's history.
