Sant'Anastasia is a stunning Gothic church located in the heart of Verona, near the Adige River. Construction began in 1290 and continued for over a century, resulting in a grand structure with a striking façade of alternating brick and stone bands. The interior is equally impressive, featuring soaring pointed arches, a wooden roof, and a wealth of frescoes by 14th- and 15th-century artists, including works by Pisanello and Altichiero. One of the church's most distinctive features is its pair of holy water stoups, each supported by a hunchbacked figure known as a 'gobbo' (hunchback), which are unique to Verona. The church also houses the tomb of Cortesia Serego, a notable Gothic funerary monument. Visitors often remark on the serene atmosphere and the sense of stepping back in time. Sant'Anastasia is less crowded than Verona's more famous churches, offering a more intimate experience of Gothic art and architecture.
