Castelvecchio is a formidable medieval castle built in the 14th century by the Scaliger family. Its red-brick battlements and crenellated towers rise dramatically along the Adige River. Inside, the Castelvecchio Museum showcases a superb collection of sculptures, paintings, and decorative arts from the Middle Ages to the 18th century. Highlights include works by Pisanello, Mantegna, and Tintoretto, plus exquisite Gothic statues. The museum's layout, redesigned by architect Carlo Scarpa in the 1960s, blends modern walkways with ancient walls, creating a striking dialogue between old and new. Visitors can explore the castle's ramparts, courtyards, and the original Scaliger palace rooms.
