Val di Noto is not a single neighborhood but a historic region in southeastern Sicily that includes Noto and eight other towns, all rebuilt in the Sicilian Baroque style after the devastating 1693 earthquake. The area was inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage site in 2002 for its outstanding Baroque architecture and urban planning. Visitors can explore a network of towns such as Ragusa, Modica, Scicli, and Catania, each with its own unique character. The region is characterized by golden limestone buildings, ornate churches, and sweeping staircases. A road trip through Val di Noto offers a journey through history, with highlights including the Cathedral of San Giorgio in Ragusa and the chocolate-making tradition of Modica. The area is also known for its cuisine, featuring local cheeses, olive oil, and wines.
