Helorus (also known as Eloro) is an ancient Greek archaeological site located on the southeastern coast of Sicily, about 10 km from Noto. Founded in the 7th century BC, it was an important trading colony of Syracuse. The site is set in a scenic coastal area with views of the Ionian Sea. Visitors can explore the remains of a Greek theater, cut into a hillside, which once hosted performances and gatherings. The city walls, built from large stone blocks, still stand in parts, showcasing Greek defensive architecture. One of the most distinctive features is the 'Pillar of the Orators' (Colonna degli Oratori), a solitary column that may have been a funerary monument or a marker. The site also includes foundations of houses, a stoa, and a small sanctuary. The surrounding landscape, with wildflowers and sea breezes, makes it a pleasant spot for a leisurely walk through history.
