St John the Baptist Cathedral is the Church of Ireland (Anglican) cathedral in Sligo, located on John Street. Built in 1730, it replaced an earlier medieval church. The exterior is simple and Georgian in style, with a square tower. Inside, the cathedral is light and airy, with a beautiful stained glass window above the altar and a fine organ. The cathedral has a calm, reflective atmosphere. It is the seat of the Bishop of Kilmore, Elphin and Ardagh. The surrounding churchyard contains interesting gravestones and is a quiet spot in the city. The cathedral is open to visitors and welcomes all.
