The Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, often called Sligo Cathedral, is a magnificent Gothic Revival building that dominates the Sligo skyline with its 75-meter spire. Completed in 1874, it was designed by the architect George Goldie. The exterior is built from local limestone, giving it a dignified, pale grey appearance. Inside, visitors are greeted by a soaring nave, intricate marble altars, and a series of stunning stained glass windows, including works by the Harry Clarke studio. The cathedral's peaceful atmosphere invites quiet contemplation. It remains an active place of worship, so visitors should be respectful during services. The cathedral is located on Temple Street, a short walk from the town center.
