Miosgán Meadhbha, also known as Maeve's Cairn, is an enormous Neolithic passage tomb crowning the summit of Knocknarea in County Sligo. Measuring about 55 meters in diameter and 10 meters high, it is one of the largest unopened cairns in Ireland. The cairn is constructed from loose limestone rubble and is believed to contain a central passage and chamber, though it has never been excavated. Local folklore fiercely identifies it as the burial site of Queen Maeve, the legendary warrior queen of Connacht from the Ulster Cycle. Visitors can walk around the base of the cairn, but climbing on it is discouraged to preserve its integrity. The site offers a tangible connection to Ireland's ancient past and mythology, and the surrounding views are breathtaking.
