Castle Maine is a striking ruin of a 13th-century Norman fortress located on the banks of the River Maine in Killorglin, County Kerry. The castle, also known as Caisleán na Mainge, was built by the Fitzgerald family and later occupied by the McCarthy clan. Today, its weathered stone walls and arched windows stand as a picturesque reminder of Ireland's medieval past. Visitors can walk around the exterior, admire the structure from the riverbank, and capture stunning photographs, especially with the backdrop of the surrounding countryside. The site is freely accessible and offers a peaceful spot for reflection and exploration. While the interior is not open to the public due to safety concerns, the castle's silhouette against the sky is a highlight of any visit to Killorglin.
