Dhanushkodi Beach is a stunning, undeveloped stretch of white sand at the southeastern tip of Rameswaram Island, where the Bay of Bengal meets the Indian Ocean. Its clear turquoise waters and gentle waves make it a peaceful escape. The beach is famous for the ruins of the old Dhanushkodi town, which was destroyed by a cyclone in 1964 and never rebuilt. Visitors can explore the weathered remains of a church, railway station, and homes half-buried in sand. The area is also a birdwatcher's delight, with migratory birds frequenting the nearby lagoon. The beach feels wild and untouched, with no commercial development.

Don't miss

  • Walk among the haunting ruins of the 1964 cyclone-devastated ghost town, including a church and railway station.
  • Swim or wade in the calm, turquoise waters where two seas meet.
  • Spot migratory birds like flamingos and herons in the adjacent lagoon.
