Agni Tirtham is a holy bathing spot on the eastern coast of Rameswaram, where the Bay of Bengal meets the island. It is considered one of the most important tirthams (sacred waters) in the region. Pilgrims come here to take a ritual dip before visiting the Ramanathaswamy Temple, believing it cleanses sins and prepares them for worship. The ghat consists of stone steps leading into the sea, with a calm, shallow shoreline. Many also perform ancestral rites (tarpanam) here. The site offers a serene view of the ocean, especially at sunrise, and is a place of quiet devotion.

Don't miss

  • Take a ritual dip in the sea at dawn, as pilgrims have done for centuries.
  • Watch families performing ancestral offerings (tarpanam) on the stone steps.
  • Enjoy the peaceful sunrise over the Bay of Bengal from the ghat.
