The Arjuna Ratha is one of the most ornate of the Pancha Rathas, designed as a miniature chariot with wheels, horses, and a shikhara (tower). Dedicated to the Pandava prince Arjuna, its walls are covered with detailed carvings of gods, celestial beings, and animals, including a notable panel of Arjuna performing penance. The ratha's elevated platform and symmetrical layout reflect Pallava mastery. Visitors can walk around the structure to appreciate the sculptural richness, including a lion motif at the base.
Don't miss
- Spot the carved stone wheels and horse sculptures at the base
- Look for the panel depicting Arjuna's penance on the side wall
- Admire the intricate carvings of deities and mythical creatures
