Jaisalmer Fort, also known as Sonar Quila or the Golden Fort, rises dramatically from the Thar Desert. Built in 1156 by Rawal Jaisal, it is one of the few 'living forts' in the world, where nearly a quarter of the city's population still resides within its walls. Visitors can wander through narrow lanes lined with shops, havelis, and temples, climb to the ramparts for panoramic views, and explore the former royal palaces. The fort's yellow sandstone glows golden at sunset, offering a magical experience.

Don't miss

  • Explore the Raj Mahal (Royal Palace) with its intricate mirror work and carved balconies
  • Walk the fort's ramparts at sunset for sweeping desert views
  • Visit the Laxminath Temple, one of the oldest temples inside the fort
