The Old Bridge, officially named Karl Theodor Bridge, is a graceful sandstone arch bridge spanning the Neckar River. Built in 1788, it replaced earlier wooden bridges and has become a symbol of Heidelberg. The bridge is pedestrian-only, offering a leisurely stroll with views of the castle, the river, and the hills. At the Old Town end, you'll find the Bridge Gate (Brückentor), a medieval-style tower with twin spires, and the famous Heidelberg Bridge Monkey statue. The bridge is especially atmospheric at dusk when the castle is lit up. It's a popular spot for photos, and the bridge's nine arches create a classic silhouette against the river.

  • The Bridge Gate (Brückentor) – a historic gate tower with pointed spires

  • Views of Heidelberg Castle from the middle of the bridge
  • The statue of Prince Elector Karl Theodor at the Neuenheim end
