Schwabentor is the eastern counterpart to Martinstor, one of the two remaining medieval gates of Freiburg. Built around 1250, it is slightly shorter than Martinstor but equally charming. Its most notable feature is a large mural on the outer facade depicting a merchant with a sack, illustrating the local legend of a Swabian merchant who tried to buy the city. The gate's tower is square and sturdy, with a distinctive wooden gallery and a steep roof. Inside the archway, you'll find a small shop and a passage leading to the old town. The gate is surrounded by historic buildings and is a favorite photo spot for visitors.
