Martinstor is a striking medieval gate tower that once guarded the western entrance to Freiburg's old town. Built in the 13th century, it stands 60 meters tall, with a distinctive pointed spire added in the 19th century. The gate's lower section retains its original stonework, while the upper floors feature decorative half-timbering and a large clock face. On the outer side, a fresco of St. Martin (the gate's namesake) adorns the archway. Passing through the gate, you step into the bustling Kaiser-Joseph-Straße, the city's main shopping street. The gate is integrated into the surrounding buildings, making it a living part of the city rather than a standalone monument.
