Porte de la Craffe is one of the few remaining gates from Nancy's medieval ramparts, dating back to the 14th century. Located at the northern edge of the old town, this imposing stone structure features twin towers and a drawbridge slot, evoking the city's defensive past. Visitors can walk through the archway and admire the robust architecture, including the sculpted coats of arms and the portcullis grooves. The gate stands as a quiet contrast to the ornate 18th-century architecture elsewhere in Nancy, offering a glimpse into the city's earlier history. It is free to view from the outside, and the surrounding area is pleasant for a stroll.

Don't miss

  • Twin cylindrical towers with conical roofs
  • Original portcullis and drawbridge mechanisms
  • Stone carvings including the ducal coat of arms
  • View of the gate from the outside at night when illuminated
