The Îles d'Hyères, often called the Golden Islands for their sun-drenched shores, form an archipelago just off the coast of Hyères. Each island has its own character: Porquerolles is the largest and most accessible, with sandy beaches, vineyards, and a lively village; Port-Cros is a protected national park with lush forests and hiking trails; and Le Levant is known for its naturist resort and military base. The archipelago's crystal-clear turquoise sea and unspoiled landscapes make it a haven for swimmers, snorkelers, and sailors. Ferries connect the islands to the mainland, and day-trippers can easily visit one or two islands. The absence of cars on Port-Cros and limited traffic on Porquerolles adds to the sense of escape. Visitors can explore historic forts, cycle through pine forests, or simply relax on beaches like Plage Notre-Dame on Porquerolles.
