Perched atop the Colline du Château, the Château d'Hyères is a ruined medieval fortress that dates back to the 11th century. The climb to the castle is rewarded with some of the most spectacular panoramic views in the region, taking in the old town, the Giens Peninsula, the Îles d'Or (Golden Isles), and the Maures massif. The site itself is atmospheric, with crumbling stone walls, towers, and remnants of the keep that invite exploration. Interpretive panels along the path provide context about the castle's history and the strategic importance of its location. It's a favorite spot for photographers, especially at sunset when the light casts a golden glow over the landscape. The castle grounds are free to enter and offer a peaceful escape from the bustling town below, with benches and shaded areas perfect for a picnic while soaking in the vista.
