Parc naturel de la Croix des Gardes is a large protected forest park on the western edge of Cannes, covering 80 hectares of hillside. The park is named after the cross (croix) that stands at its highest point, where guards once watched for fires. It offers a network of walking and mountain biking trails winding through a rich mix of Mediterranean flora: Aleppo pines, holm oaks, strawberry trees, and aromatic shrubs like rosemary and lavender. The main attraction is the panoramic viewpoint at the top, which provides a stunning 360-degree vista over the Bay of Cannes, the Lérins Islands, the Esterel Massif, and on clear days, the Alps. The park is a haven for birdwatchers, with species like the short-toed eagle and Sardinian warbler. Unlike the manicured gardens of the city, this is a wilder, more natural space. Benches and picnic tables are scattered along the trails. The park is also home to a small chapel, Notre-Dame des Pins. It's a peaceful escape from the coastal crowds.
