Rocher de la Vierge is one of Biarritz's most iconic landmarks, a rugged rocky outcrop that juts into the Atlantic. A graceful metal footbridge, designed by Gustave Eiffel's workshop, connects the rock to the shore, allowing visitors to walk out to the statue. The site offers breathtaking panoramic views of the coastline, the crashing waves, and the vast ocean. On a clear day, you can see the Pyrenees in the distance. The rock itself is a popular spot for photographers and romantics, especially at sunset when the light paints the sky and sea in warm hues. The statue of the Virgin Mary, placed there in 1865 as a protective symbol for fishermen and sailors, stands serenely against the elements. The surrounding area is a scenic promenade with benches and lookout points, making it a perfect place to pause and soak in the coastal atmosphere.
