Fort Saint-André stands proudly on the Mont Andaon hill in Villeneuve-lès-Avignon, directly across the Rhône River from Avignon. This imposing medieval fortress, built in the 14th century, was designed to control the border between the Kingdom of France and the Papal States. Today, it offers visitors a journey back in time with its well-preserved ramparts, towers, and a peaceful garden within the walls. The highlight is the breathtaking panoramic view from the top: the entire city of Avignon, the Palais des Papes, the Rhône, and the surrounding countryside unfold before you. The site also includes a small museum and a charming café, making it a perfect half-day excursion.

Don't miss

  • Panoramic views of Avignon and the Rhône Valley

  • The tranquil Jardin du Prieuré within the fort
  • The small museum detailing the fort's history
