Shigatse Dzong, also known as the Shigatse Fortress, was the former administrative seat of the local government and a symbol of Tibetan resistance. Built in the 17th century, it stands on a hill overlooking the city. Visitors can hike up to the ruins, which include remnants of walls, watchtowers, and a small museum. The main draw is the 360-degree panorama from the top: the sprawling city below, the Tashi Lhunpo Monastery to the west, and the snow-capped Himalayas in the distance. The site offers a quiet, reflective experience away from crowds.

  • Visit the small on-site museum to learn about the dzong's history and the 1904 British invasion.
