The Castle is a striking volcanic plug formed when lava hardened inside a volcano's vent and the softer outer rock eroded away. Its vertical columns of basalt resemble a castle's turrets, making it an unmistakable landmark along the Sea to Sky Highway. While not accessible for climbing, it offers excellent photo opportunities from pullouts on the highway. The site is part of the Garibaldi Volcanic Belt and provides a glimpse into the region's fiery geological past.
