The Market Theatre is a renowned performing arts venue in Johannesburg's Newtown district, originally a fresh produce market before being converted into a theater in 1976. It played a pivotal role in the anti-apartheid movement by staging groundbreaking plays that challenged the regime. Today, it continues to produce a mix of classic and contemporary works, including drama, dance, and music. The complex also houses art galleries, a restaurant, and a bar. Visitors can attend a performance or take a guided tour to learn about its rich history.
