The stock exchange is a Greek Revival building with a peristyle of 44 Doric columns on a red granite stylobate. Two rostral columns, decorated with bronze ship prows and marble figures representing Russian rivers, flank the building.

历史背景

Peter the Great ordered a stock exchange for his capital, inspired by Amsterdam's. Construction began in 1783 but stalled. French architect Thomas de Thomon redesigned it, and it was built between 1805 and 1810. It housed the Central Naval Museum from 1939 to 2010. In 2013, it was announced the building would transfer to the State Hermitage Museum to house its heraldry collection.
