Spituk is a serene village located about 8 kilometers from Leh, known primarily for its historic Spituk Monastery, perched on a hilltop overlooking the Indus River. The monastery, founded in the 11th century, houses a striking 40-foot-tall statue of Mahakala that is unveiled only during the annual Gustor festival. During this two-day event, monks perform masked dances and rituals to ward off evil spirits. Visitors can explore the monastery's chapels, admire ancient thangkas, and enjoy panoramic views of the valley. The village itself offers a glimpse into traditional Ladakhi life.
