Nanjing Fuzimiao is a Confucius Temple and former imperial examination hall on the north bank of the Qinhuai River in southern Nanjing. The present architectural ensemble reflects a long history of destruction, reconstruction and reuse.

历史背景

The site began as Nanking Imperial University in CE 317. A Confucius Temple was first built here in CE 384. Destroyed by fire in the Southern Song dynasty, it was rebuilt in CE 1034. The current buildings date from the 19th century Qing dynasty. After the 1911 revolution it lost state support, was used as army barracks in the late 1920s–1932, and was restored in 1985.
