Baoshi Mountain, also known as Precious Stone Hill, is a prominent landmark in Hangzhou's Xihu District. Rising to about 78 meters, it provides one of the best vantage points overlooking the iconic West Lake and the surrounding cityscape. The hill is named for its colorful rocks that shimmer in sunlight, particularly the reddish-brown and greenish hues. Visitors can hike up a well-maintained stone path through lush bamboo groves and pine trees, passing by ancient Buddhist rock carvings and inscriptions. At the summit stands the Baochu Pagoda, a slender, seven-story structure originally built in the 10th century. The pagoda is often illuminated at night, creating a picturesque silhouette against the sky. The site is a popular spot for photographers, especially at sunrise and sunset, when the lake and city are bathed in golden light. Despite being a tourist attraction, it retains a tranquil atmosphere, especially on weekday mornings. The hill is also a cultural heritage site, offering a glimpse into Hangzhou's long history as a capital of the Southern Song Dynasty.
