The China Railway Museum Zhengyangmen is a compact but fascinating museum located in the former Zhengyangmen East Station, a Beaux-Arts building dating from 1906. This branch of the larger China Railway Museum focuses on the history of rail transport in China, with a special emphasis on the early 20th century. Visitors can explore a collection of historic locomotives, including steam, diesel, and electric models, as well as railway memorabilia such as tickets, uniforms, and signal equipment. The museum's location near Tiananmen Square and Qianmen Street makes it a convenient stop for those exploring central Beijing. The exhibits are well-labeled in both Chinese and English, offering insights into how railways shaped China's development. The museum is relatively small, so it can be explored in an hour or two, and its quiet atmosphere provides a pleasant break from the bustling city outside.
