Chestnut Hill Skyspace

Chestnut Hill Skyspace is a site-specific artwork by renowned artist James Turrell, located in the Chestnut Hill neighborhood of Philadelphia. The installation is a small, intimate chamber with a large opening in the ceiling that frames the sky. Visitors sit on benches inside and watch the sky change color as the sun rises or sets, with subtle LED lighting shifting the perception of the sky's hue. James Turrell created the Skyspace as part of his ongoing exploration of light and perception. The Chestnut Hill Skyspace was installed in 2001 and is maintained by the nonprofit organization that manages the adjacent historic building.
