Kurodabushizo is a striking bronze equestrian statue of Kuroda Nagamasa, the founder of the Kuroda clan that ruled Fukuoka during the Edo period. Kuroda Nagamasa (1568–1623) was a daimyo who served Toyotomi Hideyoshi and Tokugawa Ieyasu, receiving the Fukuoka domain in 1600. The statue was originally cast in 1909 to honor his legacy, survived the war, and was restored in 1964.
