Xinghai Square

Xinghai Square, located on Dalian's southern coast, is a sprawling urban plaza that serves as both a civic gathering space and a popular tourist destination. Covering an area of 1.1 million square meters, it is one of the largest city squares in the world. The square is centered around a striking white marble sculpture called the 'Book of Heaven' or 'Sky Book,' which resembles an open book and is surrounded by fountains that dance to music in the evenings. Xinghai Square was built in 1997 to commemorate the return of Hong Kong to China and to showcase Dalian's development as a modern coastal city. Its name, 'Xinghai,' means 'Star Sea,' reflecting its location by the sea.
