Maple Tree Square is the heart of Gastown, Vancouver's oldest neighborhood, located at the intersection of Water, Carrall, Alexander, and Powell streets. The square is named for a large maple tree that once stood there, and today it features a statue of John 'Gassy Jack' Deighton, the steamboat captain who founded the area in 1867. Visitors can admire the Victorian architecture, cobblestone streets, and the famous Gastown steam clock nearby. The square is a popular gathering spot, surrounded by boutiques, art galleries, and restaurants. It offers a glimpse into Vancouver's early history and serves as a starting point for exploring the vibrant Gastown district.
