The Cathedral Basilica of Salvador is the seat of the Archbishop of Salvador, Brazil, and the Primate of Brazil. It was built by the Jesuits and consecrated in 1654. The church faces the Terreiro de Jesus plaza and overlooks the Bay of All Saints. It is a focal point of the Historic Center of Salvador, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The Jesuits arrived in 1549 and planned a college. The current church is the fourth on the site, built after the Dutch occupation destroyed the previous one. The cornerstone was laid in 1657 and the structure completed in 1672. The Jesuits were expelled from Brazil in 1759, and the church was transferred to the Archbishopric in 1765. The old cathedral of Salvador was demolished in 1933 to build a tram line, and the Jesuit church became the cathedral.
