The Torre dels Escipions (Scipio's Tower) is a well-preserved Roman funerary monument located just outside Tarragona, along the route of the ancient Via Augusta. Despite its name, it has no connection to the Scipio family; the name likely originated from a local legend. The tower stands about 11 meters tall and is built in a distinctive rectangular shape with three levels, decorated with reliefs depicting Roman deities and scenes. It was constructed in the 1st century AD as a tomb for a wealthy Roman family. Visitors can approach the tower and examine its intricate stone carvings, which include figures of the god Attis and other mythological motifs. The site is set in a quiet, rural area, offering a serene atmosphere for contemplation. It's a short stop that provides a tangible connection to the Roman past, and it's part of the Roman Tarraco UNESCO World Heritage site.
