Cumhuriyet Square is the symbolic heart of modern İzmir, a spacious public square where locals gather for concerts, rallies, and national holidays. At its center stands the striking Atatürk Monument, a bronze equestrian statue of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, unveiled in 1932. The square is flanked by notable early 20th-century structures, including the İzmir Municipality Building and the State Opera and Ballet. Visitors can stroll along the adjacent Kordon promenade, enjoy sea views, and admire the blend of Ottoman and Republican-era architecture. The square’s open layout makes it a popular spot for photography and people-watching.
