Thiên Đường Cave (Paradise Cave) is a 31 km long cave in Phong Nha-Kẻ Bàng National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It sits 350 meters above sea level, 60 km northwest of Đồng Hới. The cave is known for its tall chambers (up to 72 m high and 150 m wide) and spectacular stalactites and stalagmites.

The car park is 1.6 km from the cave entry; you can walk or take a golf cart on a paved road.
Only 1 km of the cave is open to tourists without a tour guide.
An adventure tour allows travel 7 km into the cave.

The cave was discovered by a local man in 2005. Explorers from the British Cave Research Association explored the first 5 km that year, and later the full 31 km. They named it Thiên Đường (Paradise) due to its beautiful formations. In 2012, a new species of scorpion, Vietbocap thienduongensis, was found here.

Paradise Cave (Thien Duong)

Paradise Cave, Thien Duong in Vietnamese, is the cave to pick if you only walk into one, and the easiest spectacular thing in Phong Nha-Ke Bang: a ticketed site with a wooden boardwalk, no guide, no permit and no booking. You buy a 250,000 VND ticket, make your way up from the car park, descend a steep staircase through a surprisingly modest mouth, and then the floor drops away into a chamber so large that the lit path ahead looks like a model railway. The boardwalk runs about a kilometre into the cave, with handrails the whole way, and anyone who can manage stairs can do it.

Phong Nha Cave

Phong Nha Cave is the cave the town is named after and the only major one you enter by boat, straight from the middle of town. There is no trek and no transfer: you walk to the boat station on the riverfront, buy a ticket, and board a wooden boat on the Son river for a run of about half an hour downstream to the cave mouth. There the engine is cut and the crew row you into the dark along an underground river, under a ceiling that keeps rising the further in you go. If you want a genuine cave with no fitness requirement at all, this is it.

Phong Nha Botanic Garden

Phong Nha Botanic Garden is the quietest ticketed site in the national park and, at 40,000 VND, the cheapest: a stretch of protected forest with marked walking trails, a lake, a small wildlife rescue enclosure and a waterfall of about 30 metres at the far end of the main loop. It is not a landscaped garden in the manicured sense, and it is better for it. Come for a slow morning under big trees, birdsong instead of boat engines, and the closest thing Phong Nha offers to a proper forest walk without hiring a guide.
