Báo Quốc Temple, one of Huế's three national temples under the Nguyễn dynasty, occupies Hàm Long hill south of the Perfume River, about one kilometre west of central Huế. A spring flows from the hill into grounds arranged around a triple gate and planted courtyard. Balconied buildings border the courtyard, while patriarch stupas stand to the left, including one built for founder Thích Giác Phong in 1714. In the main temple, dragon figures wrap four pillars. A small stupa containing relics of Gautama Buddha stands before a triple Buddha statue and two sets of Mahayana sutras. Another altar pairs a copy of the Lotus Sutra with a ceremonial bell and wooden fish gong. A monastery founded here in 1940 still trains monks.
