The Islamic Arts Museum Malaysia is one of the finest museums of Islamic art in Asia, a beautifully designed, light-filled building in Kuala Lumpur's Lake Gardens area, near the National Mosque. Its galleries span the breadth of the Islamic world, from the Middle East to China and Southeast Asia: exquisite Qur'an manuscripts, ceramics, textiles, arms and armour, jewellery, and intricate architectural models of the world's great mosques (including a scale Masjid al-Haram). The domed interiors, themselves richly decorated, are part of the pleasure.

It's calm, world-class, and often uncrowded, a refreshing, air-conditioned cultural highlight. The museum café and gift shop are well regarded, and its location near the National Mosque, Bird Park, and Lake Gardens makes for an easy combined morning.
