Hussain Sagar is the great heart-shaped lake at the centre of Hyderabad, separating the twin cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad, a beloved local landmark and the city's favourite spot for an evening out. Its most famous feature is the towering monolithic statue of the Buddha that rises from a small island (Gibraltar Rock) in the middle of the lake; boat trips run out to it. The lakefront promenade, Necklace Road, lights up beautifully at night, and the area buzzes with families, food stalls, joggers, and pedal-boats.

Built in the 16th century as a reservoir, the lake is now a recreational and scenic focal point, lined with parks, the Lumbini and NTR gardens, and public art. It's a relaxed, atmospheric place to unwind, especially around sunset, take a boat to the Buddha statue, stroll the promenade, and enjoy the city lights reflecting on the water.

Hussain Sagar was created in 1563 during the rule of the Qutb Shahi dynasty as a reservoir fed by a tributary of the Musi River. In 1992 the giant monolithic Buddha statue was installed on the island at its centre, becoming the lake's defining landmark.
