Powai Lake is a man-made lake situated in the eastern suburbs of Mumbai, near the IIT Bombay campus and the upscale Powai neighborhood. Created in 1891 to supply water to the city, the lake now serves as a recreational spot for locals and visitors. The lake is surrounded by a paved promenade, making it ideal for morning walks, jogging, and cycling. Lush greenery and a variety of bird species, including kingfishers, herons, and cormorants, attract birdwatchers. Despite its beauty, the lake has faced pollution challenges, and water quality is not suitable for swimming. The area also features a small park with benches and a children's play area. The backdrop of high-rise buildings and the nearby Sanjay Gandhi National Park adds to the setting. It's a peaceful escape from the city's hustle, though best visited early morning or evening.
