Mani Bhavan is the Mumbai house that was Mahatma Gandhi's base in the city for nearly two decades (1917–1934), a modest, well-preserved building now run as a museum and memorial to his life and philosophy. From here Gandhi launched key campaigns, including aspects of the non-cooperation and civil-disobedience movements, and his simple second-floor room (with his spinning wheel and few belongings) is preserved as he left it. The house holds a photo gallery, a library, and a charming series of dioramas depicting scenes from his life.

It's a quiet, intimate, and moving stop, small enough for a focused visit, and a window into Gandhi's Mumbai years and his methods of peaceful resistance. Entry is free. It's tucked in a leafy residential lane in the Gamdevi area, an easy, reflective contrast to the city's intensity.
