Mecca Masjid

Mecca Masjid is one of the largest and oldest mosques in Hyderabad, located just a stone's throw from the iconic Charminar. Constructed from locally quarried granite, its monumental structure features soaring arches, massive pillars, and a vast courtyard that can accommodate up to 10,000 worshippers. The mosque's name derives from the bricks believed to have been brought from Mecca, which were incorporated into the central arch. Visitors are struck by the serene atmosphere, the intricate carvings on the walls, and the tranquil pond in the courtyard. The mosque remains an active place of worship, so non-Muslims are welcome outside prayer times but must dress modestly and remove shoes. A highlight is the marble platform where the rulers of the Qutb Shahi dynasty are buried. The surrounding bazaar area buzzes with life, offering a glimpse into Hyderabad's rich cultural tapestry.
