The Wuhan Yangtze River Bridge, also known as the First Yangtze River Bridge, is a monumental road and railway bridge connecting the Hanyang and Wuchang districts of Wuhan. Completed in 1957, it was the first bridge to cross the Yangtze River, ending centuries of reliance on ferries. The bridge is a double-decker structure: the upper level carries a four-lane highway, while the lower level carries a double-track railway. It spans 1,670 meters (5,479 feet) and offers panoramic views of the river and city skyline. Walking across the bridge is a popular activity, especially at sunset when the lights come on. The bridge is a symbol of Wuhan's industrial might and a testament to Sino-Soviet cooperation during its construction. It remains a vital transportation link and a beloved landmark.
