Toronto's Distillery District is a beautifully preserved enclave of Victorian industrial architecture, the former Gooderham & Worts whisky distillery, once the largest in the world, now a pedestrian-only neighbourhood of red-brick warehouses turned galleries, boutiques, design shops, cafés, restaurants, and craft breweries. Cobblestone lanes, public art, and the patina of the old distillery buildings make it one of the most atmospheric corners of the city, and a complete contrast to downtown's glass towers.
It's a place to wander, browse independent shops, sip a coffee or craft beer, and admire the architecture and rotating art installations. It comes into its own with seasonal events, most famously the Toronto Christmas Market, when the lanes fill with lights, stalls, and a giant tree. Car-free and walkable, it's an easy, charming half-day.

Een stukje geschiedenis
The Gooderham & Worts distillery operated here from 1832, growing into the world's largest whisky producer. After closing in 1990, the superbly preserved Victorian industrial complex was redeveloped in the early 2000s into a pedestrian arts-and-culture district, keeping its historic fabric intact.
