Matthias Church

마차시 교회는 공식 명칭이 부다 성의 성모 승천 교회로, 부다 성 지구 중심에 자리한 중세 고딕 건축의 걸작입니다. 빨강, 노랑, 초록색의 다이아몬드 패턴 지붕 타일이 눈에 띄어 한눈에 알아볼 수 있습니다. 이 교회는 1867년 프란츠 요제프와 엘리자베트 황후의 대관식을 비롯해 수많은 왕실 대관식을 목격했습니다. 내부에서는 정교한 프레스코화, 스테인드글라스 창문, 화려한 성삼위일체 예배당을 감상할 수 있습니다. 700년의 역사를 지닌 이 교회는 오스만 제국 시절 모스크로 사용된 것에서 19세기 복원에 이르기까지 헝가리의 격동적인 과거를 반영합니다.

역사 이야기

According to tradition, the first church on this site was founded by Saint Stephen in 1015, though clear evidence is lacking. The current building was constructed after the Mongol invasion, between 1255 and 1269, under King Béla IV. During the Ottoman occupation from 1541 to 1686, it was converted into the main mosque of Buda. In 1686, during the siege of Buda, a wall collapsed to reveal a hidden Madonna statue, an event known as the 'Marian Miracle' that contemporaries credited with the city's fall. The church underwent a major neo-Gothic restoration by architect Frigyes Schulek from 1874 to 1896.
